In this practical gemology workshop, we will introduce the methods to confidently separate natural corundums from the commonly treated ones and the synthetic ones using the simplest mobile tools available.
This 4-session workshop will cover separating from:
Heat treatment
Titanium lattice diffusion
Coating
Dyeing / Glass filled
Synthetics
Imitations like spinels, garnets, glass, kyanite, etc.
We will extensively use a gemstone tweezer, a handheld 10x triplet loupe, a handheld calcite dichroscope and a gem cloth.
There will be a short quiz during the 4th session to consolidate learnings.
In the spirit of knowledge sharing in a relaxed environment, buying and selling of gemstones and jewellery is strictly not permitted.
