Real Case 1 - 5-digit Refund
First Contact:
Client wanted to check if a jadeite pendant is treated or not. Based on this, we classified the case as a routine verbal consult. We performed the necessary tests and concluded with the client that the item is Type A with no indication of enhancement. The client then shares that the item has a gemstone report from a China gemological laboratory that states the same conclusion.
The Story:
The client shared that the item was bought on vacation at low 5-digit SGD on the basis on the salesperson’s explanation that the item is of extremely high quality. On returning to Singapore, she realised that the item may be treated and proceeded to ask the seller for some refund. The seller concurred with some refund out of goodwill. The client then decided to approach GemRight for third party verification and wanted a report issued to support her case for a full refund. We rejected this suggestion as the item is accurately sold as Type A and having another report of the same outcome will not support her case for a refund.
The Outcome:
We shifted this case to our advisory track and the customer successfully sought back her initial payment after 1 month.
Real Case 2 - Estate Jewellery
First Contact:
The client reached out to make an appointment for verbal consult to identify some jewellery pieces.
The Story:
We realised that there are many pieces to be tested with some being strands of pearls and gemstone bracelets (left behind by the family) and they do need advice on potentially liquidating some of those items for cash.
The Outcome:
We advised the client to move this onto our advisory track where the time-based service will help cover the testing of all the jewellery pieces (more cost effective, more than half the cost of using verbal consult) and they will continue to have assistance when needed on how to liquidate the items.
Real Case 3 - High-value gemstones?
First Contact:
The client who is not in the jewellery trade has been asked by business contacts overseas to assist with the liquidation of several supposedly rare and high-value gemstones.
The Story:
The client realised that GemRight is the only advisory service in the region and reached out for an introductory meeting to understand further, especially the legal governance, market situation and potential sale paths. With the information, the client then travelled overseas to inspect and potentially take over the items.
The Outcome:
The client received GemRight support throughout the process and realised that the gemstones included synthetic materials that is not worth anything. Client also received our gem testing support when the gemstones are in Singapore with important auction houses informed for potential sale.
