This practical gemology workshop aims to unpack the concept of 种水, or texture, that is widely used in the trade related to Chinese buyers and sellers. The content of this talk is based in part GemRight Gemology’s research of more than 2000 pieces of jadeite jade pieces, contributions from alignment in the trade both in Singapore and overseas, and our academic research partner.
Participants will be able to see physical samples from our library in-person and learn how to determine for yourselves how to estimate the grading for jadeite textures, a major rarity and price factor. There will be a short quiz during the second session to consolidate learning.
As of 2026, GemRight Gemology is the only gemological research laboratory that provides grading for both texture and colour, and assigning the relevant trade names to eligible grades.
